Elie's Changes

Elie was finally at Auschwitz, and even though he has only been there for a couple of weeks he has already started to change. He went through all the steps of the concentration camps. Elie got a all his hair cut off and he also got a tattoo. When all the Jews first all went into the camp, they greeted each other and cried tears of joys knowing that some people they knew were still alive and with them.  It was nice to read about people crying tears of joy, but it was sad to know that most of them will probably end up dead before the book ends. Elie has been at Auschwitz for weeks now.

Elie has already begun to change, and he has changed in two different ways. The first way he has changed is in an event with Elie's father. Elie's father was having a colic attack, and he got up and politely asked the Gypsy if he would show him where the bathroom is. The Gypsy didn't answer at first and just stood there looking him up and down. He then slapped Elie's dad with so much force that Elie's dad fell to the floor. Elie didn't even blink. He question himself and asked himself if he had really changed so much. He told himself that if it was yesterday, he would have dug his nails into the enemy's flesh and fought back. The second way that he changed is through his religion. Elie stopped praying so recently and he began to doubt in God's justice. Elie went from crying while he prayed and being very dedicated to God, to not praying often and starting to doubt in God's justice.

It is very sad to see how Elie is starting to change, and it is even sadder that we already know how much his religion gets affected in the end and what he goes through. It's very sad to think about everything that will happen since we already have an idea of what Elie will go though throughout this book. I can't imagine what he went through by being there three weeks. He saw his father get slapped, he was separated from his family, he would occasionally get yelled at and beat at, and this isn't even the worse. This is a very sad book, but it is very interesting to read about the Holocaust from a Jews point of view. It's sad to see how Elie is starting to change because we know that he has some dramatic changes throughout the book and the fact that he is already starting to change for the worse is bad. I know that Elie's dad will die during the book, and it is sad knowing that his dad will be gone soon. I think that this event of his father's death will have a dramatic change in Elie's life. We have an idea of how much Elie will change throughout the book, and we could see in this chapter that he has already started to change.
