In the start of the chapter Elie was questioning God on what he is and he said why he is troubling these poor Jews. All Jews are ready to eat their meal when suddenly there was a argument about thanking God for the meal. The Jews responded with why would you bless him? Because in his great mind,  He created Auschwitz, Birkenau, buna, and so many other factories of death? There was more things that hey asked him and were kind of the same thing. And then they talk about events that happened in the bible like Adam and Eve and God with Noah with the flood. At the end it was bed time and slowly inmates began to leave and returned to their blocks. After that I was glad that Elie and the Jews were wishing each other a happy new year and lunch going well because Elie said that the SS offered them a beautiful present for new years. The thing that wasn't so good was that Elie was no longer in the same block as his father.

One thing that got me worried was the selection that was going to happen because I know that Elie will pass because of younger reasons. I am worried about his dad because he is much older and maybe he could be the oldest man there! Elie's father was marked up in the list and it wasn't good. This led to him receiving a spoon and a knife from his father. Elie also has to work 12 hours a day without his father because he was moved. Dr.Mengele was the one who was checking the Jews as they were been selected and the only comment that Elie got was that he was too skinny. And it would be horrible if Elie came back from work to see if his father was killed or not. At the end Elie mentions he would want a world with no bells because he hates the noises it makes. Overall I didn't like this chapter because of the selection and I knew that his father would have a hard time trying to pass into the good side were they would be chosen to be kept.
