The Gold Crown

In concentration camps, many prisoners would have to visit the dentist there at least once. This was because the dentist would check if any of the prisoners would have a teeth that was filled in with gold, if a prisoner did have a tooth filled with gold. They would be put onto a list that would be filled with the numbers of people that had to get those teeth pulled out, those teeth would be used for their own benefit to help with the Germans in the war effort. Elie was called into the dentist, the dentist was a jew from Czechoslovakia, but when he opened his mouth he had yellow rotten teeth. WHich was pretty ironic that a dentist would have bad teeth rather than good teeth. The Jew was going to extract Elie's gold crown, but at that moment Elie made an excuse that he wasn't' feeling very well. The dentist let Elie leave and told him to come back when he felt better. A week later, Elie returned he had that same excuse that he wasn't feeling well. The Dentist let Elie leave again, Elie wasn't sure that the Dentist believed him, but was probably pleased that Elie returned on his own. A few days after Elie's visti, the dentist's office was shut down. He had been arrested and was about to be hanged, this was because he had been keeping some of the golden crowns and would deal them to prisoners for his own benefit. Elie was actually happy that the dentist was caught, it meant that his gold crown was safe and could be useful to him one day, to buy something, like bread or even time to live. 

Elie was asked by Franek if he could have Elie's gold crown, Elie told that he couldn't give it to him because without the crown he wouldn't be able to eat. However, Elie's crown was registered in the list of teeth to be pulled out. Franek told him that if he gave his crown to him it will octs much more, at that moment Elie could see the greed that shined from his eyes. Elie asked his father for advice, his father told him to give his gold crown to anyone. Due to Elie's father never serving in the military, he didn't know hot to march on beat. Whenever his father wouldn't do it correctly, Franek would torment him with punches and trashes. One day, Elie decided to try and teach his father how to do it correctly. As they practiced, many of the inmates began to laugh at them. Sadly, his father didn't successfully learn how to march on beta and Franek still tormented him. In the end, Elei gave in and gave his gold crown to Franek, they took it out with a rusty spoon. Franek was nice again and even gave Elie extra soup, but was later transported elsewhere two weeks later. If they had just waited a little longer, Elie would have still had his gold crown.
