NIght Ch. 4

      Elie and his father arrived in a new concentration camp called Buna. There was a dentist looking for gold in each person's mouth and they had to pull their teeth, so they could help the Germans war effort. Elie and his father were sent to a warehouse where they had to count and sort electrical parts. Their job was very easy and they didn't have to use a lot of energy. There was a problem when they were working, and that was Idek, the Kapo. Idek was to be feared because he was bipolar and randomly he would beat someone up in his path. Elie had to be called to the dentist, so his gold crown can be pulled out for the German war effort. Elie avoided get his tooth pulled by saying he was sick and the doctor told him to come back in a week. Elie goes back to the dentist and sends him away again. Elie wants to keep his gold crown because is a bartering tool for Elie. He could give it up to get more food. He even thinks the tooth could save his life. it is the only value thing he has. The dentist was arrested and the dentist was hanged for selling gold teeth on the side for personal profit and he got caught and would be killed.
         One day, Idek was in bipolar rage and beat Elie severely. He beat him so severely that Elie was bleeding all over and his body ached. He could die if he fought back. A French girl who worked at the factory and she spoke fluent German to Elie and she told him not to cry. Many years later when Elie was in Paris, Elie say her and they met up. Elie asked if she was Jewish and she said yes. She had gotten fake papers and passed as Aryan. Elie could if turned her in, but she knew that he would not betray her. Idek know beats Elie's father with an iron bar. Elie was not mad at Idek, but he was mad at his father for being in Idek's way. Franek was a foreman and saw that Elie had a gold crown. Elie didn't want to give it to him and said that he had to eat with it, but Franek didn't buy that reason and then Elie said he needed it for a medical checkup. Elie's father could not march, so every time he messed up Franek would slap him or hit him. Elie tried to teach his father to march step, but his father didn't receive any progress. Elie finally got his tooth taken out with a rusty spoon and he also gave Franek a ration of his bread because he did not want to see his father get hit anymore, but he gave his tooth away for nothing because Franek moved to a different concentration camp two weeks later. He could of waited 2 weeks and kept his gold crown.
