Elie Drifts Father Away From God

A lot of things had gone done in chapter 5. Though in the chapter, Elie really drifted farther away from his faith and ultimately God. It was around the time to fast, and Elie had refused to, since it would most likely get him killed, since getting food in itself is already hard to do, and with the amount of hard, manual labor the prisoners had to do, they need all the food they can get. And another reason why Elie does not fast is because he has no longer faith in God, so he doesn't want to perform this ritual for his religion/faith. A lot of other decided whether to fast or not to. They know by fasting it could be fatal and kill them, but at the same time a lot of the Jews wanted to fast to show devotion to God and have all their trust in Him, that He will help them all if they follow everything he says to do. Elie's father does not fast as well.
There are many people like Elie in the camp, that have drifted away from their Faith and God too. During the winter time, Elie's foot had swollen up pretty badly, so he was sent to a doctor, where he had then gotten a surgery that removed all the puss out of his foot. In the infirmary, his neighbor had said how Hitler was the only prophet that actually prophesied things and they came true, unlike the prophets who had said that God would help and protect them, if they still put their trust and faith into him. Another scene of the Jews in the concentration camps losing their religion and ways, was when Akiba Drumer was taken away to be killed. He had asked everyone to pray the Kaddish for him, after three days, but everyone had forgot about it and continued working and to survive, they had to care about themselves first.

  1. Very good on your blog post and summarizing the story. Many people do not believe in their faith anymore because they think that God has done nothing to help them, but he has sent prophets and signs to help them. When Akiba Drumer asked everyone to pray Kaddish for him after three days, but no one did, this shows that everyone is looking out for themselves.

  2. Great job on summarizing what had been happening to Elie. Great job on talking about hwo Elie didn't fast, you went further in to it. You had explained it well, in a way where I could have understood on what part you had been talking about. Great job on adding about what his neighbor had said hwo Hitler had been the prophet, that would have kept there promises.
