I feel bad for Moishe because he actually had a bad experience and no one would listen to him no matter how hard he tried because everyone thought he was crazy. When Ellie was writing the book it was cut down because most of the book was him spewing all of his anger into the book of why nobody listen and how delusional they were. Ellie was angry because everyone thought that everything would be alright until it was too late. The Jews not listening to Moishe was one of the hugest mistakes in history because it caused many people to die. I also think that the German soldiers are crazy. I thought that killing and imprisoning Jews was terrible but some Germans would take Jewish babies and toss them into the air and shoot them as target practice. They thought it was fun which was really inhumane. Ellie used a lot of sarcasm in the book because it was so horrific. He would mock people like his dad that he died of being delusional. The Jews not listening to Moishe was a huge mistake that they would all regret, so maybe if a crazy person goes up to you and says something outrageous, who knows he might be right.

If Only They Listened
In the beginning of the book Elie described a character that was only going to appear once in the book. The character was named Moishe. Moishe was a homeless man that was quiet and awkward. He was a Jewish man that believed in his faith until he was deported somewhere else by a group of police. Everyone thought that they were just going somewhere else. Moishe was deported out of his town and into the forest with nobody else there except for them and the German police. The Germans ordered the Jews to dig their ditches which will be used as their own grave. When the Jews were done digging their hole they would line up to get shot in the head by the German soldiers and the next group would go. It was Moishes turn to get shot but the German soldier somehow missed and shot Moishe right into the leg. He then pretended to play dead for hours until the soldiers were gone. Moishe then went back to his home town and told everybody what happened and how the Germans were killing off their kind. Nobody listened to Moishe and thought that he was just insane. Moishe begged for his life for everyone to flee because he knows that something bad will happen in a couple of days. Then when the couple of days passed the German soldiers arrived and they seemed nice and polite at first and some Jews would let the soldiers live in their household. The Germans were cunning to prevent the Jews from rebelling. When the Germans came the Jews were still happy because they didn't see any German tanks yet. They are having a false sense of hope. Elie is very frustrated because no one would listen and would still have the false sense of hope until it was too late. Finally at midnight the Germans were ordering the Jews to come out of their households or else they would burn it down. The Jews were given a Star of David which marks them for death but still some Jews think its okay. Moishe shook his head with disappointment and nobody saw him again. The Jews began seeing the truth until it was too late and they were going to be moved into the ghettos.

I felt bad for Moishe too since they didn't know what he had gone through, and to add insult to injury they didn't listen to him and thought he was nuts. They really could have saved themselves if they had listened to Moishe. I thought the Germans persecuting the Jews was bad too but then throwing infants into the air and using them as target practice is beyond terrible and inhumane. I liked how you said that learning from Moishe, if a crazy person goes up to us and says something insane, they could actually be right.
ReplyDeleteGood job with your comment Dang. You gave a nice summery and a good opinion. And I have to agree with you. It must be very hard to be Moishe, he had lived through such a horrible experience, he saw how children were tossed into the air and men were shot in the neck like they were nothing. It is truly a miracle that he survived and it's very courageous that he came back to warn the Jews about the German army. It was also the biggest mistake the people did when they didn't listen to him, many believed he had just gone crazy. I also agree with you, this book must have been hard to write and most of Elie's words were in a mad tone, where he was just writing what was in his mind. Moishe was a great prophet but nobody listened and I believe that many of them regretted that when they were in the concentration camps.
