We have just started the the book Night and so far I enjoy reading it. It is very different from what I was expecting. I didn’t expect to read all of the anger, frustration and sarcasm used in the book, but I think this allows me to learn more from the book. Another thing I wasn’t expecting was the amount of foreshadowing used. For example the use of day and night. I also like that the book is quick and gets right to the point. At times it might be nice to get a lot of detail and over explain things, but I’m glad that for once this book seems to sofar be simple but still complex and interesting. In chapter two there is foreshadowing used with Mrs. Schachter.
This chapter talks all about the box car ride to the concentration camp. While at the time Elie and the other people on the box car didn’t know where they would be taken. Similar to Moshe the Beadle, Mrs. Schachter acts as a profit. People call Mrs. Schachter crazy because she has lost her husband and two older sons just like Moishe. Everynight in the box cars Mrs. Schachter yells and screams in fear trying to warn everyone that their is a fire. At first people are scared and think there is a real fire but when they look outside they see that there is not a fire. This continues for multiple days the one thing that changes is the passengers attitude towards her. At first people are scared, then they just ignore it and finally they start to hold her down to back her stop screaming. On the last day in the box cars Eil, his family and everyone else finally see the smoke that Mrs. Schachter was talking about.
Good job summarizing the chapter and figuring out on your own that Mrs. Schachter was a prophet like Moishe. Everyone thought she was crazy, like how they thought Moishe was too, because they thought it was because she was separated from her husband and two older sons. Good job knowing that out on your own. So far I enjoy reading Night too, and I wasn't expecting all of the anger, frustration, or sarcasm from the book either, but we do learn more about it from a firsthand account rather than just some random person writing about it.
