We started the actual book today, and I saw something that I wasn't expecting. No, it is not the limitless knowledge of Moishe, and his miraculous escape, or Elie's underrage learning of the Kabbalah. Instead, it is the sympathy of the invading Nazis. As they walked among the people they were sent to kill, they acted out of kindness to them. I am a skeptic, and, knowing Hitler and the Nazis, I think that these "acts of kindness" are just masks so the Nazis could gain the people's trust, and they can strike when the time is right. I think that these Nazis are acting nice, but not out of the good of heart. They are acting nice because of their ideology and their wants to a "perfect world." All of this time, the people of Sighet do not know what is happening in their town; that their friendships are actually fake for the exploitation of trust by the Nazis.
I feel bad for the people of Sighet. I have my own experiences where someone has taken advantage of me to make their own needs. Most of these are good, which is great, but there are many which were bad. One time, I helped a friend with something that they needed to do, and they said that they would pay me back; they never did. In a way, I know the people's exploited trust, because I have felt it before. I can empathize with them on this, and I can say that their lives depend on this trust, as the Nazis are exploiting their trust for their own pursuits and needs.
I enjoyed reading your blog post. I liked reading your opinion on the topic and how you could relate with it. I agree with you. I also think that the Nazis were just trying to give the Jews false hope to keep things a secret. I have also been taken advantage of but I still feel like I can't relate to the situation because of how extreme the situation was.
ReplyDeleteI liked your blog post thi week, especially the fact that you figured out what the Nazis were doing to the Jews. I also feel bad for the people of Sighet and what they are soon going to go through. I can relate to you about being taken advantage of for help with something, but it has never hurt me in any way.
