Night Ch 6

They had to evacuate Buna because the Soviets were coming and they had to be sent to another camp deep in Germany, so the Germans could hide what they were doing. There is a good chance that most of the people will not survive the trip because of the cold, their lack of sleep, and they are starving. Elie and his father have a choice to evacuate or stay in the infirmary, but Elie makes the choice for both of them to evacuate, even though Elie's foot might get cut open again. Those who stayed in the infirmary were liberated two days later the evacuation. This is painful for Elie because the choice he makes results in his father's death. If they would have stayed, both of them would have lived and not have evacuated. Before they had to evacuate, the block leader wanted the barracks clean, so the Russians will know that men lived there and not pigs. They still have their humanity. They evacuate Buna at night, so they evacuation is going to be lethal.

The S.S would shoot anyone who stopped running and those who were weak were quickly killed. Elie is using metaphors and similes trying to say that he can be killed at any moment. Everyone is dying around him and it is tempting to stop and die, but Elie refuses to give into death because he wants to be there for his father. He has no right to die. They marched and ran fifteen miles. Most of the people survived and it was freezing cold. They survived because they have a will to human survival. They arrived at an abandoned village and Elie and his father took turns sleeping because if they both slept, then hypothermia could kill them both. They could only sleep for an hour because if they slept more, it could be lethal. When Elie woke up his father, his father wakes up with a smile. Elie's father was dreaming about a better world and Elie would never forget his father's smile. Rabbi Eliahu came in where they were sleeping and he was looking for his son and while they were marching, they got seperated. His son had gone looking for himself.

  1. Good job, Aiden. You do a very good job summarizing of what we read in class. You do a good job mentioning how they have to evacuate and what they have to go through. Those who stopped running were shot. They also had to run 15 miles in terrible weather with little winter clothing. Also, you mention Rabbi Eliahu where he was trying to find his son. You're right, his son had gone looking after himself.

  2. Overall Aiden, I think that you have done a great job on your blog post. You summary was very thorough, ans had a lot of detail, of what we had read in class. When I was reading this, I thought of all the pain that the prisoners had to suffer, or even been killed if they had stopped for a little and be shot. This is very sad, and it's something that people would never forget. Overall good job on your blog post Aiden.

  3. Indeed, Elie does have a lot of regret and its painful for Elie to know that if he hadn't insisted on evacuating with the rest of the prisoners and Nazi troops, and if he had stayed with his father, they would've been liberated after two days and his father wouldn't have died. He must've felt very guilty, but it was something that Elie couldn't have known about. Elie and his father really have each other's back. The two haven't been completely dehumanized like the other Jews, they still had each other's back and looked out for one another, instead of thinking only of themselves. While on the other hand Rabbi Eliahu's son had become that way and had left his father to have a higher chance of surviving. Elie and his father's bond grew much stronger throughout their time in the camps for sure.

  4. Aiden, Great job on your blog post, you did a nice job on your summary and was very detailed as well. I like how you added the difficult decision Ellie had to make, which was to stay in the infirmary had maybe be sent to the crematories or evaluating and possibly dying. Of course, Elie had to make the choice, he choose to evacuate with his father, sadly he know admits that choice lead to his father death. It must have been so hard for Elie knowing that his choice killed his father, and if he chose the to stay he would still be alive. Overall, Good job.

  5. Good job on your blog post Aiden. You did a good job summarizing everything that had happened to far. Good job on summarizing about the evacuation and how bad of a position that the Jews were in. Elie had to make a very difficult decision on whether he should stay at the camp or evacuate. He chose to evacuate but could of have been saved if he had stayed at the camp. Overall good job on your blog post, it showed how much you knew in the chapter.
