Night Chapter Two

At the start if chapter two in Night the people who were there could not all sit down since the whole place was crowded, so all took turn on sitting. There was no air at all, so the lucky ones found themselves by a window. Then after two days, thirst became intolerable and also the heat, but the only good thing was that there was still some food left. Then the door of the car slid aside, and a German officer walked in with a Hungarian lieutenant and the German officer said that from this moment they are under the authority of the German Army. Then he said that who ever owns any values like gold should turn them in to the German officer and if you didn't and if you were found that you still have something value with you, they would of shot right there and finally he said whoever is ill should go to the hospital car.

Then the German officer that they were 80 of them in the car and when he comes back and he does not see 80 and if someone is missing they would be shot like dogs. There was women named Mrs. Schächter and she was in her fifties and she had a ten year old son. She had a husband and two older sons, but they were deported somewhere else. In the first day she already lost her mind and also in the first day she had already begun to moan, she kept asking why she had been separated from her family, and later her sobs and screams hysterical. In the third night when everyone was sleeping, and it was very quiet, then someone started to cry and said that there was a fire and the person who screamed was Mrs. Schächter and she said again that there was a fire and she also said to have mercy on her.

When everyone looked there was no fire and all they saw was the dark night. Some people said that she was crazy and felt bad for her and others said that the reason she is like this is because she have drinked water. Her son told her to sit down and he also told her that there was no fire, and while he was doing this he was crying and holding her skirt begging her to stop. Then others try to calm her down telling her to stop and her husband and her other children will come back together in a couple of days. Then men got her to calm down and it was quite again, but an hour passed and she screamed again, but this time it was louder than the other time and she said that there was a fire.

Then the men had to come over their and the other people told them to make her be quite, so they hit her in the head a couple of times, and then she did not say anything any more. Then at the evening she began to scream, but this time no one bothered to make her be silent. Then everyone was going to a station called Auschwitz. Then Mrs. Schächter was quite again and the rest ate what was left of the food. Then the women scared again that there was fire and everyone rushed at the window, but there was nothing their and the man in charge told the German officer to take the women to the hospital car, but the officer said that they were almost their. Then she screamed again that there were flames and this time there was flames.

In my opinion I felt very bad for the women because she had been separated from her family and because of this she had gone loose and did not know what she was doing and kept screaming and crying. Then she kept saying that there were flames, but there were no flames, but at the end she was right. I mostly feel bad for her son because he is very young and he had to see her mother like that and he had to see her mother get hit because she was not quite and loud. He saw her cry and the child was so sad that he started to cry and begged her to stop and sit down.

  1. I thought you had a great summary and understanding of the chapter. I agree with you, I felt bad for the woman, because she was separated from her family, and people were beating her, to quiet her down. I also felt bad for her son, because all he tried to do was hang on to her, while they were beating her. I felt bad, because a 10 year old kid shouldn't have to experience that.

  2. Good summary in the beginning of everything that happened in chapter two so far. You had great detail in the summary with lots of important points. I also empathize and feel bad for the woman who got separated from her family. I understand how the other people were able to hit her though, they were already being dehumanized and basically all of them were a little less sane then the normal person.
