The Death of Elie's Dad?

Towards the end of the chapter, the all the prisoners go in for the selection process. There, an SS would examine the Jews and decide whether the Jews were healthy enough to keep working there or if they were too weak and would be good for the crematories. The SS officers would write down the number of the prisoners if they were going to the crematories. Elie and his father both said that their numbers were not written down. They were both glad and happy that they survived the selection. However, a few days later names of prisoners were read off, and those prisoners were asked to stay behind instead of going to work. Elie's father's name got called out. It turns out that they had recorded his name without him knowing. In the end, he runs to Elie and gives Elie a knife and a spoon that Elie's dad had with him.

I think that this could be the part where Elie's father dies. We already know that his father dies before the end of the book, and I strongly believe that it will be in this chapter where he dies. Elie's father and Elie also know that he will probably die that day. Elie's father knows that he will most likely die, and that is why he gave Elie the knife and spoon he had. He wanted Elie to have it since he knew that it could help him in the future. Elie also knows that his father will most likely die because he almost cried when his father gave him the knife and spoon. This is very sad because Elie and his father have gone through so much together, and it will be sad to see them separated. Elie has gotten so much advice and help from his father, that it will most likely be very hard for Elie to have to live through the concentration camp without his father. Knowing that his father will die is very sad because we know that Elie's father is probably the only relative that Elie has that has not been killed by the Germans.
